Counterfeit Check Alert

We recently discovered that counterfeit cashier’s checks bearing Liberty Bank’s name and logo have been circulating, and individuals receiving these fake checks are being scammed out of their hard-earned money. Here’s what we know:

• All of the fake checks were issued out of state.  They also all have a blue or green background with the last four digits of the account number being ‘0050’. Authentic Liberty Bank cashier’s checks do not have a blue background.
• The scam works like this: The fraudster gives a fake check to a victim and then encourages the victim to send back a portion of the check amount. This is a new take on a common fraud scheme.
• We are working with authorities to put an end to this fraudulent activity.
